Terms of Use
Effective October 13, 2026 · Version 2
The short version
- Aurora is free, made by an independent developer, and offered as it is, with no guarantees.
- Claude can be wrong. Check anything important, and follow your school's rules about AI.
- An invite code is for you only and works on one copy of Aurora. It has daily limits and can be switched off at any time.
- Don't misuse Aurora or try to get around its limits.
1. Agreeing to these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Aurora for Canvas ("Aurora", "we", "us"). By installing or using Aurora you agree to them and to the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please remove the extension.
2. What Aurora is
Aurora is a browser extension that changes how the Canvas learning platform looks in your browser and adds study tools: a dashboard, a to-do list, grade and GPA calculators, quick search, and a panel for asking Claude, an AI assistant made by Anthropic.
Aurora is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Instructure, Anthropic or any school. "Canvas" is a trademark of Instructure, Inc. "Claude" is a trademark of Anthropic, PBC. Those names are used only to describe what Aurora works with.
3. Who may use Aurora
- You must be at least 13 years old.
- If you are under 18, you may use Aurora only with the permission of a parent or guardian, who agrees to these terms on your behalf.
- You may use Aurora only with a Canvas account that is your own, and only in ways your school allows. Your school's rules and Canvas's own terms still apply to you.
4. The Claude features
- Answers can be wrong. Claude is an AI. It can make mistakes, miss details or state things that are not true, including due dates, grades and requirements. Always check anything important in Canvas itself or with your teacher.
- Your work is your responsibility. Aurora is set up to help you understand your work, not to do it for you. You are responsible for following your school's and your teachers' rules on academic honesty and the use of AI, and for anything you submit.
- Not professional advice. Nothing Claude says through Aurora is medical, legal, financial, mental-health or other professional advice. If you or someone else is in danger, contact local emergency services.
- Be careful what you share. Don't put other people's private information, passwords or anything you would not want processed by an AI service into your questions.
- Anthropic's rules apply too. Use of Claude is also subject to Anthropic's Usage Policy (anthropic.com/legal/aup). If you use your own Claude account or API key, your agreement with Anthropic governs that use and any charges are yours.
5. Invite codes
- An invite code lets you use Claude through the Aurora server at no charge to you. It is given to you personally. Don't share it, post it or let anyone else use it.
- A code can be activated once. It then works only in the copy of Aurora that activated it; if you reinstall Aurora or change computers, ask for a new code.
- Invite codes have daily message limits, which may change.
- We may switch off any invite code, or stop offering the Invite code option altogether, at any time and for any reason, including misuse or cost.
- There is no promise that the service will be available at any particular time.
6. What you must not do
You agree not to:
- use Aurora to break the law, your school's rules, or anyone else's rights;
- use Aurora to cheat, to harass or harm anyone, or to produce harmful content;
- get around, or try to get around, invite codes, daily limits or any other safeguard;
- use the Aurora server from anything other than the Aurora extension, or send it automated or bulk requests;
- attack, overload, probe or disrupt the Aurora server;
- access Canvas information that is not yours;
- resell Aurora or offer it as your own.
7. Other services
Aurora works together with services run by others, including Canvas (Instructure and your school), Claude (Anthropic), Cloudflare and Google Chrome. We do not control those services and are not responsible for them. They can change or stop working at any time, and parts of Aurora may stop working when they do.
8. Ownership and licence
Aurora and its design belong to its developer. You are allowed to install and use Aurora for your own personal, non-commercial use, for as long as you follow these terms. Aurora includes open-source components that are provided under their own licences, listed on the Licenses page. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under those licences.
If you send us ideas or feedback, you agree that we may use them to improve Aurora without owing you anything.
9. No warranty
Aurora is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not promise that Aurora will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, that it will show your Canvas information correctly, or that anything Claude says will be accurate. Grade and GPA tools are estimates only and are not official records.
10. Limits on liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Aurora and its developer will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, grades, academic standing, opportunity or money, arising from or related to your use of Aurora, even if we were told such damage was possible. To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim related to Aurora is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us to use Aurora in the twelve months before the claim, or US$20.
Some places do not allow some of these limits, so parts of sections 9 and 10 may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms removes rights that the law says cannot be removed.
11. Your responsibility to us
If you misuse Aurora or break these terms and that causes a claim or cost for Aurora or its developer, you agree to cover the reasonable costs that result, to the extent the law allows.
12. Ending use
You can stop using Aurora at any time by removing the extension. We may stop providing Aurora, or any part of it, at any time. Sections 4, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 14 continue to apply after you stop.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we will update the date above and Aurora will ask you to review the new version before you use Claude again. Continuing to use Aurora after that means you accept the updated terms.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, except where the law of the place you live gives you rights that cannot be changed by agreement. If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest stays in effect.
